For over a decade the Smoky Mountain Relay has been inspiring teams of runners from around the country with its 200 + mile course. The event is a scenic, wild, team adventure in the Blue Ridge Mountains, just west of Asheville, North Carolina. The course is ambitious and not for the faint of heart and will challenge runners with tough legs, but also reward you with stories to last a lifetime.
Choose from 6 person, 9 person or 12 person teams to split up the 36 legs. The 208 mile course begins at the Pisgah Ranger Station Visitor Center just outside of Brevard, NC in the Pisgah National Forest and ends at the Nantahala Outdoor Center in Bryson City. You and your team will pass through the Pisgah National Forest, the Nantahala National Forest as well as hit the Blue Ridge Parkway for 2 exchanges.
The course is a mix of trail running, gravel and dirt forest service roads, as well as paved roadways. Be prepared to not only run through the woods but also, on roadways at night. Whether you’re an ultra running 6 person team, or a just in it for the fun of it 12 person team, this race is one for the bucket list.
